  • How do i set a Waypoint?

How do i set a new Waypoint?

    1. Find the place in the map you want to create a Waypoint (search for address):
      waypoint_new_1
    2. Zoom in until you see the area you want to create Waypoint clearly. You can click on the padlock icon to open up to move around the map. Tip: You can use the scroll function (if you have) on the mouse to zoom in and out:
      waypoint_new_2
    3. Then click on the Waypoint icon, marked with red square in the image below:
      waypoint_new
    4. The Waypoint button should now be blue and the mouse pointer is now a cross. You are now ready to start!
    5. Click once in the map to set first point. You will now see a blue line that follows the mouse. Click on places in the map you want the Waypoint to include. After selecting a minimum of 2 points, you will see that the area between these points will be grayed out. This means that you can now save this area as a waypoint. If you want to expand the area further, just continue clicking on points in the map until you have a desired area. There is no limitation on the area’s shape. A line will be drawn from last to first point.
    6. When you’re satisfied with the area -> Right-click the mouse and select “Exit and Save”:
      waypoint_new_4
    7. You will then see the following dialog box where you define the properties of this Waypoint:
      waypoint_new_5

      1. Waypoint: Waypoint Name
      2. Select edit mode
      3. Color of the Waypoint

        • No notification (Waypoint set inactive)
        • The object enters Waypoint
        • The object leaves Waypoint
        • The object enters and leaves Waypoint
      5. Export ID: Reference Number on Waypoint in Other System Connected via API
      6. Mobile phone: When notifying via SMS – Select which existing contacts you want to receive notification by SMS
      7. E-mail: By notification by e-mail – Select from existing contacts you wish to receive notification by mail
      8. Associated Objects: Here you can find which objects to link to this waypoint
      9. New Objects: Check this if you want objects created later to be linked to this Waypoint automatically.
      10. Periods: Define when the Waypoint must be active.

    Example:

  • How can I get a map view of my Spotguard unit(s)

By logging into the Spotguard App or the Guardsystems Fleet-system with the credentials provided by Customer Service.

  • Why has my Spotguard not reported or reported inaccurately?

Please be aware that due to the technological limitations of GPS satellite signals and GPRS coverage, we cannot guarantee that the GPS device will be able to transmit its location 100% of the time.

GPS/GPRS coverage may vary in different areas or experience downtime, interruptions or dead spots.

Please also remember that GPS is an outdoor technology, therefore GPS accuracy will be hard to get while the unit is inside buildings.

  • Will Spotguard give positions in other countries?

The Spotguard will work wherever a valid GPRS network is available. The telecommunication service coverage is provided by Telenor and Telenor’s roaming partners worldwide.

  • Where do I mount the Spotguard unit to assure the best radio conditions?

It is recommended that the Spotguard unit is positioned in such a way that it is not shielded by metal, carbon fiber, lead glass or concrete. These materials inhibit the radio signals and will reduce the accuracy and performance of the unit.

  • Is the Spotguard waterproof?

The casing is made to the standard of IP class 67. This means that it is dust proof and can withstand to be submersed for shorter periods. Do not however mount it under water, as this will affect GPS reception and GSM coverage.

  • What are GSM signals?

Global System for Mobile Communications GSM is the most widely used form of mobile telephony in the world. By using the GSM signals, from multiple Cells, a rough position can be attained, with the approximation of a town or district. The GSM position will be shown on the map as a circle. The Spotguard will not necessarily be in the middle of the circle, but somewhere inside or around the circle. To minimize the power consumption, the GSM method is the standard for the Spotguard – as to prolong the Spotguard batterys lifetime. Spotguard Plus devices can be set up to use GSM triangulation as default positioning method or as a backup for when GPS signal is unobtainable.

  • What are GPS signals?

Global Positioning System; The GPS system consists of 24 satellites, that circle the Earth. By using the GPS radio signals, a precise position can be attained for the Spotguard, with the approximation being the nearest road, and if possible the closest house number. The GPS position will be shown on the map as a marker. The device will use more power using the GPS, than it would, if only using GSM positioning. It is therefore recommended to only to use the GPS positioning, in short periods a time, to preserve the battery as long as possible, for example, in situations where you need to pinpoint the device if stolen. Only Spotguard Plus devices have GPS receiver modules.

  • My Spotguard has not reported any position into the system.

The Spotguard could be placed in difficult conditions for the GSM signal. This could be because that it is in a parking garage, container or on a ferry. Iron/steel and concrete, can reduce the signal strength, and cause problems. The Spotguard will start reporting again when GPRS connection is reacquired.
